Location, Location, Location

May 3, 2010 · Wedding Advice

It’s all about the location!  By determining what you have envisioned, you can narrow down your location search.

Do you want a formal or causal wedding?

What colors are you planning on using?

Will you have a theme to your wedding?

Do you want an outside ceremony? (Make sure the venue as a good back-up plan that you would be happy with if it rains)

Asking yourself these questions will help with a location decision.

Research locations online and see if they fit the direction you want to go.  Look at reviews and see what other brides have said about the venues (keep in mind that not every person will be satisfied) but this may weed out a couple of choices.  Call and set up appointments at your top choices and take a tour of the venues.  Get all the information you can and ask several questions.

The main questions to ask besides if they are available for your date:

1.  What’s included in the price?

2.  What’s the cost of the “extras”?

3.  How many guest can they fit comfortably?

4.  How much are the additional taxes and gratuity?

5.  What’s their alcohol licenses information or can you provide your own, do they have catering on-site, what’s their policy for other vendors, how much is the deposit / payment information, do they have any centerpiece options, do they provide linens, what’s the amount of tables & chairs included; do they provide an on-site coordinator to help with your ceremony; etc.  ASK IT ALL!!

Once you decide on a venue, make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing.  If you were told the venue would provide 5 votive candles to each table, then have that written down.  The smallest items need to be listed to insure you are getting everything you were promised.  A contract is very important!!!

So once the venue is nailed down…it’s all smooth sailing from here…or so they say!
